Project Solus
A downloadable game for Windows
Project Solus
You are Calihan, a courier turned survivor adrift in a dying galaxy. A newly formed nebula has swept across Solarian Space, mutating those it touches and cutting off communication between worlds. Your home is lost. Your lover is gone. But her voice still calls to you from the static, beckoning you somewhere far away.
Features:
- Fixed camera angle gameplay inspired by the classic Resident Evils
- Explore abandoned ships and stations for supplies, lore, and hidden threats
- Psychological horror rooted in loneliness, loss, and fractured hope
- CRT style visuals and low-poly art, like watching blackbox footage from a forgotten ship
- Diegetic interfaces to help build immersion.
A Note From the Developer:
Hi there. My name is Atticus, and this is the first game I've ever published, and also my first time working in 3D.
Project Solus was developed as my final college project, and it's been a huge learning experience from start to finish. And now it has become passion project of mine that I have continued to work on in my freetime. I plan to continue working on this by adding new ideas and hopefully someday making it a full game with a beginning, middle, and end.
But Seriously, thanks for checking it out and let me know what you think. Also if you run into any bugs, please let me know and I'll try my best to get them fixed. All feedback is welcome.
I'll try my best to keep in touch with the comments and discussion boards below.
Also, Everything you see in game is subject to change. I might change, scrap, or completely rework somethings during development.
Update 0.2.1!
Heyo!
Update 0.2.1 has arrived. This update isn't the promised 0.3 (That's still in development) so instead this update is more focused on changes to the game based on feedback from 0.2. I thought getting these changes done and putting the game into a better state was more important than adding new things, but new things are in the works!
0.2.1 features:
- A new movement system with 3 different movement types that can be changed anytime.
- Changes to the menu effects
- A few quality of life changes
The main reason for this update is the new movement system. Ever since the release of 0.1 the game has used standard WASD controls but a lot of people said in feedback that controls were disorienting at some points. After a lot of testing different methods, I've decided on 3 types of movement that should work best with the game's camera angles.
The first of the new movement controls is classic Tank Controls from the old Resident Evil games.
The second is Mouse Directional. This movement type is something I've been working on myself. It's similar to tank controls but instead of using A and D to rotate the player follows and rotates towards the mouse.
And the third movement controls are standard WASD movement, but the character moves relative to the camera position. Similar to how it works in games like Detroit: Become Human.
Let me know what you think of the new controls in the comments below. And as always, any and all feedback is welcome!
Update 0.2.2!
Hey, it's me.
Nothing new in this update. Just pushing a small update to fix a bug in the game that involved the camera not looking at the player in Brimpie Orbital when using Mouse Directional Movement.
So sorry, I never noticed it during tests.
Since this update has been pushed so late, there's a few things in this version that were supposed to be in the upcoming 0.3 update. These include an overhaul of the main menu and it's intro, and also includes a redesign of the main character's ship interior. These are just a couple of the changes coming in the 0.3 update.
Also, the camera layout in the main character's ship may feel off at times as the cameras are being adjusted to a new and final movement system coming in 0.3.
